Would You Like to Sing with Us?
The Cantorum is a mixed choir that usually performs 2 major concerts per year and an average of 60 people sing each concert. Auditions are held twice a year and are open to area community members and we have the summers off. Each concert is a mixture of music selected by a Cantorum committee, such as Chrismas Around the World, a Broadway-themed performance, or one of our more recent concerts, "As Time Goes By"
We rehearse on Thursday evenings from 7:30 - 9 p.m., at First Baptist Church,
301 E Capitol Street.
Our upcoming Spring concert will be on May 6, 2023
Auditions will be Thursday evening January 12 & 19, 2023
In order to audition for our upcoming Christmas concert, you will need to obtain an audition packet, by contacting Nancy Waggoner at 573-230-2715 or jccantorum@yahoo.com
How do we audition? Auditions are open for Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Bass, but depending on the vocal balance of the group, you may be put on a waiting list. Singers auditioning for Cantorum will be asked to sing your voice part (soprano, alto, tenor, or bass) in a quartet setting on the song “America”. Sopranos will also need to sing the alto part in the quartet setting, as part of their audition. There will also be some tone matching as well as testing your vocal range. Please bring a piece of music to sing by yourself. You may sing either a cappella or we will have an accompanist. Auditions are in a relaxed setting.
We require 75 percent attendance of scheduled rehearsals for each concert. We do not have excused or unexcused absences. Normally you will be allowed to miss five rehearsals, if needed for work, sickness or conflicting event.
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to call or email. Come join us!
