History of Cantorum

The Jefferson City Cantorum was founded in 1967 by J. Patrick Healey and Grayson Peters. The original group was a mixed double quartet, but quickly grew.

The group has performed with the Jefferson
City Symphony Orchestra and the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, as well as in the Cork International Choral and Dance Festival in Ireland. They have performed in the Governor’s Mansion, on the steps of the Capitol during July Fourth celebrations, and for civic groups and conventions, as well as at other community events.

The Cantorum performs a variety of music, ranging from classical to popular. The group’s shows have included “The Mikado,” “Pirates of Penzance,” traditional American music, patriotic and Broadway musical revues, and most recently, a review of songs from the 20th century.

Involved in local schools, the J Patrick Healey Scholarship, created in April 2005, is presented each spring to qualifying area high school seniors.

”Friends of Cantorum” was also created in 2005, helping to provide financial support for our music, auditorium rental fee, costuming and equipment.

More information about joining the Cantorum and rehearsals can be found under "About the Cantorum."
